Student Visa

As of  April, 2005 Poles wishing to apply for a student visa are categorised according to Assessment Level 1.This means that it has become a much easier process. In order to apply for this visa, you will require the following documents:

• your passport (which must be up to date and cover the dates of your travel)
• Confirmation of Enrolment from your desired institution of study
• Evidence of health insurance
  Evidence that you can pay for your course fees
• Medical Assessment

• Evidence that you have enough money to support your stay in Australia

The main advantage of a student visa is that you are legally allowed to work 20 hours per week. Should you decide to study for a longer period of time, for example a year or 2, it is possible for you to work full time during semester breaks.

It should be outlined, that the purpose of this visa is to study. Each institution will monitor your attendance and should your work committments interfere with your ability to attend classes, the institutions have an obligation to report your absence to the department of immigration, upon which your visa will be cancelled.

You can apply for a tourist visa for a period of 3, 6 and 12 months. It is possible to study short courses using this visa, combining travel and study. However, it is important that you understand that you can not work according to the rules and regulations of this visa. You will also need to provide evidence of comprehensive health insurance for your stay in Australia.

Skilled Migration Visa

Pt is possible after successfully completing your study in Australia that you can apply for an onshore skilled migration visa. To apply for this visa you need to have satisfied the following requirements:

be in Australia
be the holder of an eligible student visa
be under 45 years of age
have studied in Australia for two years full time and obtained an eligible Australian qualification
nominate an occupation which fits your skills and qualifications from the Skilled Occupations List (SQL)
have applied for skills assessment from a relevant assessing authority

If you are thinking of immigrating to Australia, this option may be the best for many different reasons. Immigrating to a country that you have never been to is quite a serious decision to make. This way you can both study and live in Australia whilst weighing up both the advantages and disadvantages of such a big move. However, please be aware that choosing your course of study now is the most important decision you will make. The SQL list noted above, may change which means that the course you choose now may not have the same point system in 2 years as it does now.Nobody here in Poland can guarantee that your application in two years time will be successful, simply because there are to many factors which are beyond your control. The best that can be said at this point, is that it is possible.

Please also be aware of the fact that studying english in Australia does not qualify as part of your 2 years of study.

New Zeland

Should you decide to travel to New Zealand for a period of  90 days to study, no visa is required. However you can not work. Your main purpose of stay is for tourism purposes.

Travelling on a student visa does allow you to work. You can work:

• to meet a course requirement for practical work experience
  or up to 20 hours per week if you are enrolled in a course taking at least 2 academic years
  
• enrolled in a full-time course of study culminating in a qualification that would  qualify for points under the Skilled Migrant Category
• There are other terms and conditions that apply to this visa type.
